![]() What little I know about the actual Winchester House from having very briefly looked up the case online I gather the movie has very little in common with the facts. It is purported to be based on a true-life haunting. Haunting of Winchester House in 3D is just a movie in 3D for the sake of being in 3D. It adds nothing and I got the sense the director did not shoot the movie knowing it would be in 3-D. For the life of me I do not understand why they chose to render a 3D version of this film instead. Giant Octopus a b-movie that would have been benefitted from being in 3D. Why did The Asylum release this particular film in 3-D? Earlier this year they announced like three other movies would be in 3-D before they finally settled on Haunting of Winchester House being their first 3D DVD release. I don’t know if they weren’t completely compatible or if the 3D processing was just really shoddy but I gave up after about fifteen minutes of murkiness that barely looked three-dimensional. I tried using the blue/red 3D glasses that came with the Friday the 13th Part 3 DVD that came out earlier this year. Suffice to say this annoyed me to no end. I don’t know if this has been a problem at other Blockbusters or if there just seems to be some sort of jinx going on when it comes to me and Asylum films. The movie is available on the disc in both 3D and 2D but if I want to watch the 3D version I’d have to have my own 3D glasses sitting around somewhere because someone on the distribution end screwed up royally. I asked the clerk and he told me that the distributor never sent them the 3D glasses like they were supposed to. Definately quirky, a large house, not especially beautiful outside and definately not inside. So I rented the DVD from my local Blockbuster and as I was walking out the door I opened the case to get a look at the glasses – the glasses that were not included with the movie. Surely a few pots of live plants/bulbs/ferns could add to the ambience, in there and throughout the house. Also plastic flowers in the conservatory area. There was piped music/sound effects throughout the tour which I didnt think really added anything. The house is sparsely furnished as all was left to the neice who kept what she wanted and sold the rest - an awful lot of 'stuff'. She died in the house and the work stopped immediately. Gardens were a bit disappointing, not very large, well kept, but nothing unusual - given the rest of the place. Whole place now closed until 1st April due to C 19 virus so hope they crack on and finish cafe and other works needed in this period. The latter covers some of the outer buildings too but only from the outside. We found the explore more tour better but does only make sense if you have done the main tour, so main or both not just explore more. Some of the works make sense as she was a short lady so low hand rails then suffered with arthritus so staircases with very low risers but most of it is insane. Apparently 15 builders 24/7 for 38 years, well they all saw her coming no wonder they were loyal a never ending cash cow. It also shows just how much money she had to be able to carry on with the work. ![]() It is bonkers! I heard the history and just cannot understand why someone, her neice? could not persuade her to stop. ![]() It is definitely more of a curiosity than a 'must see'. We were on holiday and this seemed a quirky think to do so prepared to spend the money. You may as well get the explore more tour added on if you have the time just to reduce the overall cost, another $42 on its own of $12 if bought at same time. My main reason for the average rating is the cost at $42 for an adult for the main tour, that is extreme for an hours tour.
